How do you do them? I can make the still frames to go on to my video 1 layer in premiere 6 but where do the still frames go on the timeline to make them visible?

    Hmm.

I recently downloaded "Subtitle Workshop" from here http://urusoft.co.nr/.

Its quite easy to use, just load in your movie (whatever format) and add the subtitles to the relevant timecode...

As for what to do with the subtitles after you've typed them all up?! no idea yet! Upto now I've exported them into SSA (SubStationAlpha) format and used a VirtualDub plug-in to render them on to a video... but as for a proper DVD subtitle.. still got to work it out!!!

for layering the subtitles over the image in premiere you could make the backgrounds - on the still frames with the titles on - blue.

Then in premiere put them on video track 2, go to transparency settings and change the key type to blue screen.

there is probably simpler ways to do it but i like this one the best

I've made a couple of DVDs with subtitles on. I use MacOS X and a piece of software called DVD Studio Pro and Subtitle Editor which is bundled with it. It works the same as the software mentioned earlier where you type the subtitle at the timecode, and when you're done you compile subtitles to a .spu file which you can then import as a subtitle track into DVD Studio Pro.

I would assume it's a similar technique with your windows subtitling software but it's a case of finding what software will import the compiled subtitle file.
